The day has finally come. The film and TV rights to Brandon Sanderson's work have been acquired.
Anyone who follows Sanderson knows that he has, over the last several years, kept tight reins on his adaptation rights, waiting for what he felt to be the right deal.
But now, in a deal first reported by the The Hollywood Reporter, Sanderson's works are headed to Apple TV. Initially reported as a deal covering all of the Cosmere, Reactor's article covering the news includes a correction via Sanderson's agent that Apple TV "has only acquired adaptation rights for The Stormlight Archive and Mistborn books."
Perhaps the most exciting detail of this developing story for fantasy fans who've had their dreams crushed by paltry and miserable adaptations is that Sanderson will retain unprecedented control over anything produced under this deal. He stands to serve, per The Hollywood Reporter, as "architect of the universe" and will "write, produce and consult; and have approvals." I'll be curious to see if this extra control translates to markedly results.
