The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2025 has been awarded to the Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai, “for his compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art”.
Krasznahorkai has been a leading contender to win the Prize for several years now. Indeed, this year he was second in betting odds behind only the Australian Gerald Murnane.
Fans of horror and fantasy may be interested in Krasznahorkai's melancholic and apocalyptic epics. If you're new to his work check out this bio-bibliography from the Nobel Foundation. Are you interested in reading the newly-minted laureate but aren't sure where to start with his work? We recommend his debut novel, Satantango, or his first novel translated in English, The Melancholy of Resistance.
